I am attorney Laura K. Valentine, and I help people with the legal problems that come up in the course of life. If you are struggling with a family law, employment, or criminal law issue, contact my Burnsville law office and make arrangements for a free consultation before things go any further.
I will explain what options the law offers in your case, help you define your goals, and then you can decide how to proceed. If you retain my services as an attorney, I will vigorously pursue the strategy you have chosen.
I have been practicing law since 1989 and have extensive trial experience, and I practice in the state, federal, and appeals courts of Minnesota. I now focus my practice on three areas of law:
Whether an agreement can be worked out in family mediation or your divorce or custody dispute will need to be resolved at trial, I will represent your interests. I represent clients during dissolution of marriage regarding division of marital property, child custody, child support, visitation, and alimony / spousal support. I also help families with adoption, legally determining paternity, and drafting prenuptial agreements.
If you are involved in the turbulence of domestic violence, it is important to consult a lawyer at the first opportunity. In some cases, a temporary restraining order and counseling can provide the couple with an opportunity to reconstruct their relationship. In other cases, a longer term solution will need be determined. Whether you are a victim of abuse or have been accused of domestic abuse, it is important that you seek help early to avoid unpleasant short and long-term consequences.
Minnesota and federal laws protect workers from discrimination and harassment in the workplace. If you have been wrongfully terminated or are being treated unfairly, contact an employment law attorney to establish your most favorable position early in the process.
An arrest for DUI, assault, or even something like shoplifting may result in serious consequences, including public embarrassment and a permanent criminal record. If you have been charged with a felony or misdemeanor, it is important to contact an experienced criminal defense attorney at the first opportunity and protect your rights and find out what legal your options are.
